On Saturday, September 29, 2001, THE OTTAWA CARLETON MALE CHOIR completed the recording of its first CD titled "A World of Music", finalizing the earlier recording sessions in April.
The recording took place in the beautiful sanctuary of Christ Church Cathedral, Ottawa, with it's magnificent pipe organ.
Wednesday afternoon, April 4, was devoted to recording the choir selections with virtuoso organist Andre Knevel of St. Catharines, Ont., with whom the choir has performed in a number of concerts. Wednesday evening was devoted to the recording of the selections with organ and piano accompaniment of the choir's pianist Oksana Iliasevitch. On Saturday, April 7, the piano accompanied and the a capella selections were recorded.
A total of 26 selections were recorded, of which 20 choral selections are on the CD/Tape. The selections include music of a sacred, classical, spirituals, folk and contemporary genre. The choir sings in English, Latin, Russian, Dutch, French, German and Japanese.
In addition to the choral selections, the CD features two instrumental solos by organist Andre Knevel, titled 'Trumpet Voluntary', by J. Stanley and Andre's improvisation on "Rock of Ages Cleft for Me" (Vaste Rots van Mijn Behoud). The CD also features a piano solo by Oksana Iliasevitch, titled 'Etude Nr.2, F# minor, Op. 8 N 2', by Alexander Scriabin.
