‘Crescendo’ Male Choir – St. Thomas, ON

“The Crescendo Male Choir comes to you from St. Thomas, Ont.  They are a Christian Group of men who use their musical talents to serve in God’s Kingdom.  They sing to entertain, but their singing also serves as an evangelistic tool.  These men come from all walks of life and different age  groups.  The love of singing and their desire to serve the Lord have kept these men dedicated.  The Crescendo Choir started out on the music road 8  years  ago, never realizing that God had this in store for them.”

The above stated words were written on the back of the LP recording available from the Choir at its March 31, 1978 previous concert in Ottawa.  If after 8 years the Choir never realized that God had this in store for them,  words can likely not express the blessings the Choir has received and has brought to their  audiences in no less than another 27 years since 1978.

The title of the Choir’s latest CD recording appropriately reflects that not only the years roll on, but that also “The Song Rolls On”.  The Choir has been blessed by having the same talented Director, Jack Dykstra and Accompanist, Richard Dykstra during all these years.  It is the Choir’s hope and prayer that you will be equally blessed by the message in song presented in Ottawa at the celebrations of the 60th Anniversary of the Liberation of The Netherlands.

Richard Dykstra - Accompanist

Richard started his musical training at the age of 10 in St. Thomas, Ontario and presented his first concert at the age of 13. He studied organ under the well known Arthur Garroway, Robert Towers and John Wood and became a regular church organist at the age of 14. He has been the accompanist of the St. Thomas District Male Choir "Crescendo" since its formation in 1969, except for a six month sabbatical in 1977 when he played hockey for a Dutch Hockey League. He was also the St. Thomas Ladies Choir "Gloria in Excelsis accompanist for a number of years. Although he plays both organ and piano, the organ has always been his favourite instrument. Over the years Richard has been fascinated with Dutch organ masters and their ability to improvise on old Psalms and Hymns. Improvisation has become his first love and even though some are not available on sheet music, he writes the music by listening to recordings.
